Having a lot to say is not the same thing as being an expert. The charismatic movement would have all Christians believe that they—the charismatics—are the experts on the Holy Spirit. But is volume the true measure of expertise?
Scripture is clear about what to look for when it comes to identifying the Spirit’s work. Christ’s words in John 16 give us a good place to start.
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. (John 16:13–14)
In the following video clip, R.C. Sproul gives a helpful perspective on how to identify and understand the Person and work of the Holy Spirit.
Many charismatics falsely assume that opposition to their movement is the same as opposition to the Holy Spirit. But Grace to You’s criticism of charismatic theology has always been in defense of the Spirit, as He’s presented in Scripture. At the upcoming Strange Fire conference, we want to highlight the true work of the Holy Spirit.
